Land Use and Zoning

Our attorneys have a broad range of experience handling complex real estate development projects throughout New York State, including appearing before and acting as attorneys for local planning and zoning boards, obtaining permits, subdivision and site plan approvals and variances.  Bowitch & Coffey attorneys have expertise in New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) issues, as well as wetlands mitigation and a variety of federal and state environmental laws and regulations that may affect the ability to develop property.

Daniel Coffey previously served on the Bethlehem Planning Board and currently serves as Chairman of the Bethlehem Zoning Board of Appeals.  He also serves on Bethlehem’s Comprehensive Plan Assessment Committee.   Gary Bowitch served as Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City of Rensselaer, New York and served as attorney for the City Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

Our attorneys can help you cost-effectively navigate the sometimes Byzantine process of getting planning or zoning approval through local boards.  Where necessary, Bowitch & Coffey will commence Article 78 Proceedings challenging denials by local boards.
